The first step in building an egress walkout in Northern Virginia is obtaining the proper engineered plans and permits. These projects involve major structural work to an existing foundation, and they require the experience of a seasoned structural engineer who understands retaining walls, footing requirements, structural openings, drainage, stair geometry, soil conditions, and foundation loads. The plans must then be submitted to the appropriate county for review and approval before construction can begin.
Not every contractor is properly qualified or equipped to perform this type of work.
