It all starts with the foundation for your new garage

Building a new garage with Cecco Construction Northern Virginia begins with laying a solid foundation, typically a slab on grade. The process starts by digging a two-foot-deep foundation trench, 16 inches wide, where we install two strands of #4 rebar. The footing is then poured with 12 inches of 3000 psi concrete, ensuring the rebar is centered in the footer. This footer requires inspection from local county officials, including Arlington County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, and Loudoun County, to verify the load-bearing strength of the soil and compliance with local building codes.

Once the inspection is approved, we pour the concrete and, depending on the grade, build up to ground level with cinder blocks. Anchor bolts are installed in the cinder blocks to ensure a secure attachment for the garage framing. Next, we lay a four-inch layer of #57 gravel, tamp it down, and install a 10-mil vapor barrier. We then place #5 rebar and welded wire mesh for additional reinforcement. Before pouring the slab, a building official must approve the setup.

We use 3500 psi concrete for the slab, which is machine-finished to achieve a smooth surface. The framing of the garage is done with 2×4 studs placed 16 inches on center, followed by the installation of engineered trusses. After framing, our electrician installs all necessary outlets, and we ensure that any insulation where the garage meets your home is inspected and approved by county officials.

The next step involves installing waterproof sheathing and your choice of exterior finish—be it siding, brick, Dryvit, or stone. We frame both single and double garages and match the roofing shingles to your house. If needed, we install stairs for egress openings and energy-efficient garage doors, including the option for an electric garage door.
